THE TREATY ON THE PROHIBITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND THE TREATY OF TLATELOLCO

The Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (or The Treaty of Tlatelolco) and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) share a common objective: achieving a world free of nuclear weapons in the interests of global peace and security. This factsheet explains how the treaties work together, how the TPNW builds on and globalizes the provisions of the Tlatelolco Treaty, and how states parties to the Tlatelolco Treaty can support total nuclear disarmament by joining the TPNW.
