Twenty years after its adoption, the 1997 Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention has an impressive record of success. The Convention is saving lives and limbs and furthering the aspiration of a world free of anti-personnel mines. Efforts continue to destroy stockpiled mines, clear mined lands, assist mine victims and mobilize resources through cooperative partnerships between governments, international organizations and civil society. This factsheet outlines the Convention’s achievements and the remaining challenges as the States Parties strive to fulfil their ambition to accomplish the key goals of the Convention by 2025.
